The fall season prompts us to use our fireplaces more. The fireplace is always an accent. Since when it is turned on it becomes the focal point of the room, it may be time to remodel it.
Your fireplace may need updating. Fireplaces can look dated if they have the wrong stone or wood color. Sometimes it is necessary to change the entire surround around the fireplace. If the style is correct it can just be repainted and stained.
Every fireplace I come across when remodeling a home needs redesigning. It usually means changing the stones surrounding it and a new wood mantel to update it. It is not that costly and sometimes you can simply refinish the wood and change the stone. Usually, we remodel the fireplace at the same time as we do the rest of the remodel.
In the photo, we redesigned the fireplace. We took out the old wood burning fireplace and put in an updated modern faux log fireplace that can be turned on with the flip of a switch. I built custom niches with LED lighting for display. We moved the television to above the mantel because the TV and fireplace are both focal points in the room. It’s better to have them together, especially if the space is limited. The brand new walnut flooring was installed around the limestone hearth under the custom designed limestone mantel and legs. Surround sound speakers were mounted in the wall above the niches.
