The AWA+D speaking engagement held at KGM Architectural Lighting was a spectacular turnout of fellow peers in the design world. I was very excited to share my story of how I started as an architecture student evolved into an interior designer and space planner and took the leap and became a licensed general contractor.
It was evident that after speaking and answering questions that there is a fear or hesitance as to whether or not to cross into the general contracting world when one is already a professional architect or designer. I spent the majority of the Q&A explaining how it is possible and it is a good decision for many to enter into the contracting world as it greatly improves your control over the execution of the plans and the Design Build process becomes much more enjoyable for all. The end result of the discussion and the point I made was that the client is better served if the architect, interior designer and custom kitchen designer all have a better understanding of how general contracting works.
Thank you again to AWA+D for including me in their discussion with their colleagues and members. I really enjoyed the event and I hope that my information will benefit the entire architecture and design community.
